Theater

We are excited to offer 2 Theater classes for the 2021-2022 school year.  

Theatre 1 (Grades 9-12: .5 Credits/1 Semester) Course # THR7015. Provides students with the opportunity to learn theater by doing!  Students will explore: improve, pantomime and other forms of acting.  Students work collaborative with much student choice and flexibility.

Stagecraft  (Grades 10-12: .5 Credits/1 Semester) Course # THR8025. Provides students with experience and learning around  theater production including: scenery construction and painting, sound production, costuming, lighting and stage management.  A hands-on learning environment that directly adds to theater performances at LHS. 

Hip Hop Studies

Grades 11-12 (.5 Credits/1 Semester) Course # MUS4075. Students in this semester course will study and perform Hip Hop music. Students will gain knowledge of music production through Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and Soundcloud. 

Guitar 1

Grades 10-12 (.5 Credits/1 Semester) Course # MUS4045. A fantastic opportunity to learn basic, beginning guitar and guitar styles with guitars provided.   Individual opportunities to explore advanced techniques. 

AP Music Theory

Grades 10-12 (.5 Credits/1 Semester) Course # MUS4095 This AP course studies the basic concepts of theory including scales, note reading, clefs, chord, transposition, 4- part writing, formal analysis, and ear training. Computers are also used to explore the technology side of music theory. 

Choir at LHS is a place for EVERYONE! We are excited for you to join us. 

Chorale (Grades 9-12) Course # MUS2010. Chorale is LHS's large community choir. That means we accept all levels from beginning singer to advanced. We focus on making an inclusive group that performs all over the Madison community. Music selection is primarily student driven with many student leadership opportunities. 

Treble Chorus (Grade 9-12) Course #MUS2021  Treble Chorus will study and perform a wide variety of music written for treble chorus. This intermediate choir class is designed for treble voices who want a challenging singing experience.  Students in Treble Chorus will study music written for soprano and alto voices, and choirs are open to and respectful of all gender identities. 

Advanced Concert Choir (Grades 10-12) Course # MUS2060. This select smaller choir is by invitation only. This group does a lot of jazz and a cappella songs (think Pentatonix). Music selection is not only primarily student driven, but also student-created as the students in this group learn music arranging skills. More advanced solo singing techniques and more advanced Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) skills are included in this course as well.  

Show Choir (Grade 10-12) Course # MUS2040. Students will perform modern and pop music including: jazz, pop, a cappella and will include some choreography.

Band

Concert Band (Grades 9-12)  Course # MUS1040. LHS's welcoming band for all freshmen. Also open to upperclassmen interested in learning a band instrument or who are experienced musicians looking for leadership opportunities. The ensemble is focused on continuing to improve technique, playing as a group and exploring music of all kinds. Performing opportunities include marching band, pep band, community concerts, and working with guest clinicians and conductors.

Wind Ensemble (Grades 10-12) Course # MUS1090. LHS's premier band striving to perform the finest band music at the highest level. Performing opportunities include marching band, pep band, community concerts, and working with guest clinicians and conductors.

Jazz Ensemble (Grades 9-12)  Course # MUS1080. Jazz Ensemble is open to all instrumentalists, including guitarists, bassists, and drummers. Study and perform the music that was born in New Orleans and raised around the world. In addition to learning jazz, this ensemble will explore music and styles from Africa, South America, and Central America that molded together with Western classical music to create jazz. Learning jazz is a great way to better understand music of all genres including rock, pop, and hip-hop. 

Early Bird Jazz (Grades 9-12) Course # MUS1085. Student musicians will learn and perform many jazz styles and eras of jazz including swing, bebop, Latin, funk, jazz-rock, and fusion. Participants in Early Bird Jazz need to also be enrolled in Concert Band or Wind Ensemble.  

Orchestra

Concert Orchestra (Grade 9) Course # MUS3030. A performing orchestra for our incoming 9th grade students.  Students continue or begin their orchestra journey.

Symphony Orchestra (Grade 10) Course # MUS3020. Our sophomore performing orchestra continues to develop students skills and provide opportunities for more advanced orchestra music. 

Philharmonic Orchestra (Grades 11-12) Course # MUS3040. Students continue their journey as student musicians receiving additional training in specialized techniques and play more advanced pieces.
