Welcome to world languages at LHS. At LHS we believe that language and culture matter and being multilingual is an incredible strength that will benefit ALL of our students. We are proud to offer 3 comprehensive language programs: American Sign Language (ASL), French, and Spanish. Whether you are beginning your language learning journey or looking for advanced language study and dual-credit opportunities, we are excited to have you join world languages at LHS.

Level 1

Level 1: Begin your language and cultural learning journey in the language of your choice or begin an additional language! You will learn how to communicate through simple conversation and develop skills in understanding and using the language.

Level 2

Level 2: You will expand your ability to communicate in the target language (ASL, French, or Spanish). You will also continue to explore the cultures connected to the language.

Level 3

Level 3: You will continue to develop your language skills and cultural understanding at the intermediate level while mostly using the target language of the class (ASL, French or Spanish).

Level 4

Level 4: You will refine your intermediate proficiency in receptive (listening and reading) and expressive (writing and speaking) language while mostly using the target language in class.


Which level is right for me?

Advanced Courses

Level 5 (Spanish and French): You will continue to refine your intermediate proficiency while building on your linguistic and cultural knowledge and skills from Level 4.

Advanced Placement (AP) Language and Culture (Spanish & French): AP Language and Culture classes are equivalent to an intermediate-level college courses in the target language, applying advanced intermediate language in real life and academic situations.

Advanced Placement (AP) Literature and Culture (Spanish): AP Spanish Literature and Culture is equivalent to a college-level introductory survey course of literature written in Spanish. You will practice critical reading and analytical writing as you examine short stories, novels, plays, essays and poetry.

Extracurricular Opportunities


  • French Club is a group for students that are interested in learning and celebrating French and Francophone culture. This group is open to everyone, not just students currently in a French class. French club hosts events for National French Week in November, makes food, listens to music, learns lessons not typically covered in French Classes, and even takes a trip to a local French cafĂ©!

  • Spanish Club is a club dedicated to raising funds for students to travel abroad to a Spanish speaking country.
