What to process as you plan for a job training program...

• Is there a fee for my program?

  • Job training programs have varied fees. Some are course fees, others materials fees. Pay attention to all fees that might be expected. Also note that most financial aid does NOT cover job training programs.

• What will be your take home income after completing the program or getting your certification?

  • • Do your math. Make sure that your take home income can coverage your cost of living. Check out the current cost of living breakdown in Dane County. You never want to pick a job based off salary or payment alone, but it is something to consider.

• What benefits are provided within this job you are training for?

  • • Keep in mind that salary or payment is just ONE piece of the puzzle. Make sure the positions also has things like: paid time off, health or dental benefits, 401K, and more.

• Do I understand enough about the process of financial planning or banking?

• Could I save money each month from emergency funds?

  • • The banking goal is for 20% of your income to be saved each pay period. This is to give you a nest egg in case of an emergency.
