What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce, and individuals can obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a portable, nationally-recognized credential.
Many apprenticeships are PAID apprenticeships in which you learn and work at the same time. Apprenticeships are available in a limited amount of careers.
Requirements: Apprenticeship requirements depend on the specific apprenticeship entered. Some apprenticeships are eligible for students age of 16, however most programs require individuals be at least 18.

High School Diploma (specifically a certain number of math, english, and science classes)
Certifications
Work experience
Some advances apprenticeships may require a college degree (Degree level apprenticeships)

Do your research! There are a variety of apprenticeship offerings, some even available to start while at LHS. Check in with your counselor, CTE teacher, or our Youth Apprenticeship person at LHS to learn more.
Test out a CTE course! Not sure about getting into an electrician apprenticeship? Make sure to try out some of our great CTE courses to see if you like that type of work.
Check out Youth Apprenticeships! As mentioned above, LHS has a program for students who are interested in which you can start working in an apprenticeships of interest. You do need to be over 16 to get involved, but next year is right around the corner.
