When did you last see Rachelle?
At dinner. I left the meal to report back to the bridge at 20:15.
What did you say to her?
Oh, nothing really. Just wanted to make sure she was enjoying herself and see if she needed anything. I also let her know that we would be making landfall before morning.
Did you eat dinner with her?
No, but I saw her there.
How do you know her?
I never met her until the voyage. She hired the ship through the main office. I just steer the boat.
Where on the ship were you when Rachelle was killed?
Well, that depends on what time she was killed. I retired to my quarters at 23:30.
Did you see anything suspicious last night?
I made my rounds from 23:15 to 23:30 and didn't see anything out of the ordinary at that time, so I suspect that whatever happened, took place after 23:30. We could check the lock system to see the last time her door lock was used. All the doors have an electric card scanner, like a credit card, and the system records the last time each door was opened or closed with a key. If a key was used, the system would tell us when her door was last opened. You could actually see it for every door. It doesn't show every opening and closing, just the last time. As long as everyone had their own key, it'd help you find out when each room was accessed.
Why do you think someone killed Rachelle?
She was quite a sweet young lady. Her family is a touch odd, but in this business, you see all types. I know she was a very rich young woman.
Did you use your total access key that night?
No. The first time I used it was at about half past 8 in the morning when the parents asked me to check on Rachelle's room.
