Our two Preschool For All classrooms at Mendota District 289 follow the foundations of Creative Curriculum and the expectations of ECERS-3. We provide play-based learning experiences planned around biweekly themes.
The classrooms utilize the following free-choice learning centers: dramatic play, library, blocks, fine motor, art, sensory, science, ipad, snack, and music.
Five fundamental principles of the Creative Curriculum guide practice and help teachers to understand the reasons for intentionally setting up and structuring preschool programs in specific ways:
1. Positive interactions and relationships with adults provide a critical foundation for successful learning.
2. Social-emotional competence is a significant factor in school success.
3. Constructive, purposeful play supports essential learning.
4. The physical environment affects the type and quality of learning interactions.
5. Teacher-family partnerships promote development and learning.
Meaningful classroom experiences are centered around hands-on materials and social interactions. For that reason, your child will not complete worksheets or other printables. Your child’s education will not come home in his folder--but in his heart and mind.
