Social Studies

Social Sciences explore the relationship between individuals and society. The disciplines of civics, economics, geography, and history are central to your child’s preparation for college, career and civic life. Your child will begin to learn skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary to be an informed and effective citizen. The kindergarten theme is “My Social World.”

Curriculum Resources: Students are provided an individual weekly magazine called "Studies Weekly." Studies Weekly standards-based curriculum applies a Balanced Literacy approach to education. The combination of printed weekly units and web-based primary source media, audio reader and other features creates a high level of Student Engagement. Teacher-created lesson plans include rigorous and relevant assessment, word study, writing prompts, reading (modeled, shared, guided, and independent) and much more. Our products foster Critical Thinking Skills that help develop a new generation of Responsible Decision Makers.

In addition, many classrooms incorporate Scholastic News magazine called "Let's Find Out" into lessons. Each students is provided a copy of the interactive magazine that is packed with nonfiction selections with amazing photos about interesting animals and people and kids just like them.
