The LHS Library is not your typical so-quiet-you-could-hear-a-pin-drop library where everyone sits silently, reading or working on assignments. The library is open for students to eat lunch, and even has a student microwave. There is a variety of desks, chairs, and furniture for students to use to eat, read, work, create art, and more. This is a great space to come to meet new people that share your interests, or even to work on group projects. Come on in, find a seat, and enjoy!
There are chess sets available for students to use. Grab a partner and a chess set, find a seat, and play a game or two.
In the graphic novel section of the library (the bowl area next to the Main Street door) has a few tables that are excellent for the creation of art. This is a great space to meet fellow artists and comic book enthusiasts to share your art and exchange book recommendations.
The Jazz Band will have Jazz Fridays in the library, where they will come set up and play a few jazz pieces to library regulars and anyone else who wants to come listen in. Mrs. Mueller is very open to offering students opportunities to perform and would love to have other groups come perform too. This can include a group of band or choir kids, or maybe even a group of theater kids that want to come perform a sketch or two. Contact Mrs. Mueller if you are interested in performing in the library!
There is also a piano that was donated to the school by Melissa Ethridge for students to play. You can play it for all to hear or plug in a pair of headphones to practice privately.
There is typically a puzzle set out for students to come in and solve. This is a great way to meet new people that share an interest in puzzles, as well as improve teamwork and communication skills. Puzzles can be found at the tables near the Circulation Desk.
The student printer is located in the library near the Circulation Desk. It is connected to the Chromebooks so students can print out assignments or any other papers they need for their classes.
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! You can go to the LHS Library to register for a library card at the public library in Leavenworth. You can also register for a State Library Card by seeing Mrs. Mueller. This is a great opportunity and the process is simple, so don't miss out in September!
