Yearbook is both an extracurricular activity and a class. Students on staff attend events and work all year long to capture the history of the year as it is happening. They take pictures, write stories, learn graphic design and page design, how to operate a small business, and work on marketing and sales campaigns. It is a great real world experience for students interested in careers in journalism, business, or for students who just want to be involved and love telling stories.
Yearbook is a class that requires prerequisites. Students who want to be on the yearbook staff need to first take 21st Century Journalism and Photo Imaging. The 21st Century journalism class is where they learn to interview and write stories. In Photo Imaging, they learn the basics of photography and how to compose great images. They are each a semester class, so they can knock them both out in one year or less.
