Life Cycles:

  • Discuss Endangered Animals from yesterday as a class.

  • Lesson on Endangered Animals Research Poster.

  • Spend time researching and recording information on an endangered animal of your choice. (Please keep your research notes to bring back to class!)

Must Do's:

Life Cycles:

  • Work on the “Endangered Species Act of 1973” page in your Animal Life cycles booklet. To find answers to your questions check out the link on "Endangered Species" from the National Wildlife Federation.

  • Check your answers with Ms. Amanda online, or with the Endangered Species Key
    below (on Google Classroom). (Please try filling in the blanks before looking at the key!)

When you are finished:

  • Watch the video on Endangered animals to get you thinking of what species you are interested in.

  • Think about what endangered animal you are interested in researching more about and find 2 good sources online.

  • Please email Ms. Blumhagen links to these 2 websites! (We will be starting our research tomorrow.)

Raz Kids:

  • Read and respond to at least 1 book.

  • Complete Animal Classification page for the 4 animal types we have covered (Mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles). We will submit this later next week once we have looked at the other 3 types of animals.

  • Writing - We began brainstorming

  • Novel Study - We read Chapter 8.

Science: We explored properties of minerals using an online lab.

Social: We are reviewing our Mapping Skills for a quiz later this week. (know your directions, the continents and oceans, as well as what the equator, prime meridian and hemispheres are)

  • Novel Study - We did Questions 1-2 of the Chapter Summary for Ch.5-8

Orange Shirt Day/Health: We watched a video and discussed what Orange Shirt Day means. We then read the True Story - When I Was Eight.

  • Word Work - We continued working on Sort 8 Word Work in out duotangs (you can practice with the Spelling Checklist. When done students completed Sort 8 Word Work on Google Classroom.

  • Writing - We selected an Owl to research and completed The KW portion of our KWL chart.

  • Novel Study - We read Chapter 9.

Science: We explored components of soil with a lab.

Social: We had our quiz. (Know your directions, the continents and oceans, as well as what the equator, prime meridian and hemispheres are.)

  • Spelling Test - for Sort 8

  • Writing - We began filling in the page on "What is the Topic" to brainstorm questions about our owl that we may want to research on topics like Food, Habitat, Appearance etc...

  • Word Work - We working on Sort 9 in our duotangs, try practicing your words using the Spelling Menu.

  • Novel Study - We learned what a synonym was and started our Vocabulary Study for Chapters 9-11.

  • Writing: We began researching our owl and learned how to record our " sources" in our booklets.

Science: We did a walk around town looking to uses of rocks

Social: We corrected our Mapping Quiz and looked at some games to review for our redo quiz. Check out the Games on Google Classroom.

  • Word Work - We had our Spelling Test on Sort 9.

  • Writing: We continued researching our owl. We also finished our Diary entry as Wol or Weeps. Remember we are focussing on describing the setting and showing the voice of the character.

Social: We had a make up quiz on Continents and Oceans.

  • Writing - We listened to a ghost story and discussed elements and description that made it spooky. We will be writing our own "uncanny" train story this week.

  • Novel Study - We did a book review on Owls in the Family.

Science: We continued working on our Layers of the Earth PPT on Google Classroom.

Social: We began exploring four countries around the world. We watched tourism videos for each before exploring each using Google Maps.

  • Writing: We started filling in a Story Mountain Map to plan a narrative story.

  • Diorama Presentation: We recorded a short video on Flipgrid to share with the Grade 1/2's on the setting of Saskatoon.

Social: We continued our activity on Diwali, moving on to taking notes and starting our poster in pairs.

  • Writing - We reviewed out Story Map organizers and continued working on our story. (Focus on introducing the characters and setting before introducing "plot" or "action")

Science - We learned about the Eardrum in a short lab. We then checked our BrainPop before completing a short activity page on the eardrum.

Social - We completed a Google Maps Scavenger Hunt on India.

  • Word Work- We has our Spelling Test today. (feel free to to do a test at home!)

  • L.A. - We watched "For the Birds" and completed our Inferring questions for it (sorry I don't have it digitized!) Feel free to rewatch with a parent and discuss what things you had to "infer" based on what you saw (text evidence) and what you already know (schema).

  • Writing - We reviewed out Story Map organizers and continued working on our story. (Focus on introducing the characters and setting before introducing "plot" or "action"). You may find the organizer here helpful today to ensure you have all parts!

Science - We continued learning about eardrums. We watched the BrainPop video before completing the quiz.

Social - We completed a Google Maps Scavenger Hunt on India.

Health: We worked on our Christmas songs with Mrs. Brenda.

  • Word Work- Sort 19 - Cut and sort words. Try using them all in a silly story by just moving around your words.

  • Writing - Write a letter back to Ms. Blumhagen about your Winter Break!

Science: Review things we've learned in our Hearing and Sound Unit by watching a couple videos. Begin looking at instruments, before we think about building one later this week.

Art: Review what Timbre is (video) and then play with online website to help capture the sound waves for your name.
