We finished a short worksheet on Setting after reading (page 5 below).
Pick one setting in the book and respond to the three questions. Think about these questions from Charlie's perspective.
We read Chapter 12 and discussed how the setting impacted Charlie.
For example, this about what topic often comes up when Charlie is at her Aunt and Uncle's house.
We read Chapter 13 and discussed "Visualizing" the story while listening and what the "atmosphere" would have been like in both settings in the chapter.
We then drew a picture of what we visualized happened this chapter.
We read Chapter 14 and discussed "Cause and Effect".
We then responded showing one example of cause and effect in the chapter.
We read Chapter 15 and discussed how Charlie seems to be wishing more frequently again.
Why do you think she is wishing more despite having caught Wishbone?
We read Chapter 16 and discussed how the event at the end of the chapter may have played out differently with Howard there.
We read Chapter 17 and discussed how the events of the chapter related back to our predictions yesterday.
What do you feel Howard really meant when he asked Charlie if she wanted to go pick strawberries?
(The author is SHOWING us instead of TELLING us something).
We completed 2 questions on Chapters 15,16 and 17.
Questions can be found on Google Classroom.
Select the "Comprehension Questions" and then scroll down till you find the ones for Ch. 15-17 (page 7).
We read Chapter 18 and discussed whether or not we felt that Charlie's wish might still change and why she suddenly is wanting to change her wish after all these years.
We read Chapter 19 and discussed what we felt Howard could have been wishing for at the end.
What could be be upset by if he hadn't been wishing to get rid of the up-down walk before.
We read Chapter 21 and discussed the character Jackie. How is she similar and different to other characters in the book?
We read Chapter 22 and discussed what would have happened in the story had Charlie not broken the long end of the wishbone.
Think about her reaction as a character and the rest of the characters reaction as well.
We read Chapter 23 and discussed whether Charlie had realized any of what Jackie told her at the end of the chapter.
We read Chapter 24 and discussed how the conflict in the story so far relates to the quote "If all our troubles were hung on a line, you'd choose yours and I'd choose mine."
Does Charlie see the troubles in others lives?
We finished the book Wish today:
Complete the Google Form on Google Classroom (to make a prediction about what will happen).
Listen to the ending below.
Complete story "sketch" on Wish (page 61).
Complete the "Story Sketch" on Wish (Page 61 in the document)
On Google Classroom of the "Student Activities" complete page 7, where it asks you to describe how Charlie's character changes from the beginning, middle to the end of the story.
Finally we watched a couple book trailers for Wish and discussed what main points would be important to tell a person to "reel them in" to make them want to read the book too.
We watched a book trailer and brainstormed what Key Details we could include in our own Book Trailer for Wish. We recorded our ideas on a graphic organizer.
Think about phrasing things as a question to avoid spoiling the book.
Example. Charlie has been making wishes since she was in fourth grade.... Will her wish ever come true?
We reviewed what details we could include in our book trailer. After finishing out storyboard template we began work on our Google Slide "Book Trailer".
