This week we organized information using the 5 W's + H to help us write a Newspaper Article about our Field Trip to the Stavely Museum.
Complete the graphic organizer here.
Write out a news article and attach your Google Doc in Google Classroom.
This week we are looking at how to add suspense to our writing.
Read the Writing Prompt (from last week).
Continue writing your story. Remember to give small clues at a time to create suspense. (Feel free to work on Google Docs as we will be writing out what we did on the hand out on the computer next.)
This week we are continuing our Suspense Writing.
Please go to Google Classroom and continue your writing.
This week we are working to finish our Suspense Writing. We are focusing on Editing and Revising. Check out the video below to review how to Edit and Revise your writing.
Remember we are writing a suspense story - what details do you want to look for as you revise.
We also spent time reviewing what a paragraph looks like.
Please go to Google Classroom and continue your writing.
This week we are learning about Poetry! (Spoiler - you will be writing a poem this week eventually that you may wish to enter in the Polar Expressions contest)
Monday:
We read the poem "The Day that Summer Died". What is it about? What patterns do you notice?
We then chose 1 poem from the following and read it in a group and answered the same questions. What is it about? What patterns or elements of poetry do you notice? (We are talking about all these elements tomorrow)
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE NOT SUBMITTED YOUR SUSPENSE NOVEL, THEY ARE DUE LAST WEEK AND I NEED THEM IN FOR REPORT CARDS ASAP!
Please go to Google Classroom and FINISH your writing. Share it with me when complete so I know to print it! :)
This week we are continuing Poetry! (Spoiler - you will be writing a poem this week eventually that you may wish to enter in the Polar Expressions contest)
Monday:
What the video on elements of poetry below
Read the spooky poem below and pick out elements of poetry within. (How does it repeat? Rhyme? Notice the description. etc...)
Start writing. Begin by picking a spooky topic and writing down some description. Don't think too much yet about things rhyming etc... This will come as you start writing and can start moving ideas around. Poetry is imperfect, and that's what makes it fun!
We watched a video on parts of Friendly Letters.
We then brainstormed what we might say to Charlie at the start of the book to help her (without telling her future).
We then independently started writing in the Assignment on Google Classroom.
We reviewed formatting for Friendly Letters (check out our edited example) and shared ideas for our letters.
We then independently continued writing in the Assignment on Google Classroom.
