Math For Grown Up's

First of all thank you all so very much for working so hard with your kids. This is not an easy time for anyone, least of all parents. Please know that what you are doing is enough, you know your kids best of all. This page is to house some videos and things that I have been meaning to make for some time. Some of you have had opportunity to work through this "new" math with me in the classroom and for others we have had conversations and always meant to get to it...

Please know that the math isn't new. The math that you learned is still in there, sure it looks a bit different in places but it is still there.

Math and education generally is like many other fields in that we are always doing our best to make progress in our methods.

As a rural girl I think about it like summer fallow - there used to be lots of summer fallow around the country. It was where farm kids learned to drive the tractor. But now we don't see much of it anymore. Sure it controlled the weeds and the crops did better on that piece the following year. Now we see air seeders, zero till methods, improved fertilizer and soil sampling and are still producing food on the same land. Methods improved, we became more efficient at controlling the weeds and improving the productivity of the land. Education is like that too. We are always doing our best to move forward and to do what is best, to be stewards of the future.
