The Flight Commander position is the first step to becoming a leader in the unit to determine the direction and goals that the Cadet Staff has developed!
Flight Commanders develop leadership skills by:
Leading AS-1/AS-2/AS-3 class groups in uniform wear, drill, activity, character, and followership skills
Being the "exemplar" of the correct way to wear the AFJROTC uniform
Showing great discipline in all aspects of AFJROTC
Mentoring the members of their Flights and unit members
Setting the example in Community Service and Academic Excellence
Showing their Flights that participation in AFJROTC Leadership Develop Requirements (LDRs) is important to both the unit and LHS
HOW DO I BECOME A FLIGHT COMMANDER?
You must have a regular and impeccable understanding of how to wear the AFJROTC uniform
You must be a GREAT LHS student; your academic grades are important!
You must live the three Air Force Core Values of "Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in all You do" in your daily life
You must be willing to show up before or after school to monitor and help out with LDRs
You must be organized and willing to spend extra time to complete tasks when assigned
Cadet Leadership Course
All Flight Commanders must attend the unit's Cadet Leadership Course (CLC) to be assigned as a Flight Commander in their 11th (Junior) year. The photos below will give you a snapshot of the challenges you may face in your journey to become a prestigious Flight Commander for MA-771. Most Flight Commanders are considered for local and national awards and scholarships in their Senior year!
