9.1 Eligibility
All unit members earn paid vacation except for service in substitute, temporary or overtime work in addition to their regular assignment. Vacation benefits are earned on a fiscal year basis -- July 1 through June 30.
9.2 Allowance
Vacation benefits are earned as follows:
9.2.1 Full-Time (12 months)
1 through 3 years of service - 10 days per year
4 through 10 years of service - 15 days per year
11 through 19 years of service - 20 days per year
20 plus years of service - 22 days
9.2.2 Part-Time
If an employee works less than eight (8) hours per day, or less than five (5) days per week, or less than a full year, he/she shall be entitled to vacation benefits granted to regular full-time employees, but such vacation shall be prorated in the same ratio as the employee’s work hours per day, days per week, weeks per month, or months per year bear to full-time employment. Hours served in excess of 173.33 per month shall not be used in computing vacation benefits.
Factors shall be:
Three (3) years or less - .03846
Four (4) to ten (10) years - .0577
Ten (10) years or more - .0769
Paid vacation leave shall be granted on a pro rata basis at the end of the fiscal year to classified employees who were hired by the District after July 1 and before February 1 of the fiscal year, and whose employment does not terminate prior to the end of the spring school semester.
9.3 Scheduling Vacation
Vacations are encouraged to be taken during the school vacation months, but may be taken at other times by mutual agreement between the employee and their direct supervisor. Vacation time must be requested in writing at least ten (10) business days preceding the planned vacation days. Modifications to the approved vacation schedule must be requested and approved by the direct supervisor at least five (5) days prior to the requested change. The direct supervisor will respond to any requests involving vacation within three (3) days of the employee request.
9.4 Accrual
Vacation time accrued in any fiscal year must be taken by June 30 of the same fiscal year. Any vacation time not taken by the employee will be cashed out effective June 30 of the same fiscal year. Employees who work 195 days or more, will have the option to carryover up to (5) days from one fiscal year to the following year provided they notify the district in writing by May 30.
9.5 Interruption of Vacation
Classified employees may interrupt or terminate vacation leave in order to begin another type of paid leave without a return to active service, provided the employee notifies the District Office within three (3) days of such interruption or termination and supplies relevant supporting information regarding the basis for such interruption or termination.
9.6 Vacation Pay Upon Termination
Eligible employees who have complied with the provisions of this section shall be paid in cash for any accrued vacation upon final termination of employment with the District.
