8.1 Current Employees
8.1.1 Health and Welfare Benefits
Health and welfare benefits means any form of insurance or similar benefit program.
8.1.2 Group Insurance Coverage
All unit employees may participate in District-sponsored medical and dental plans. Employees shall pay any cost not covered by District contributions through payroll deduction. Employees shall complete a payroll deduction form. If requested by the District, employees who choose not to participate in District insurance plans shall provide a written statement declining participation.
8.1.3 Selection of Plans
The District shall negotiate over the selection of plans from options offered by Schools Insurance Group (SIG). The current plans selected and applicable premiums are listed in Appendix “C.” Employees may select from among any of the plans listed in Appendix “C” in accordance with SIG regulations.
8.1.4 Conditions for Participation
Conditions for employee participation, including enrollment requirements, eligibility of family members, and coverages, are governed by the master contract of insurance for each plan. The master contracts are available in the District office. Changes in any contract imposed by the carrier, underwriter or SIG are beyond the control of the District. The District shall notify CSEA of any changes within a reasonable time.
8.1.5 District Contribution
The District will make the dollar contributions toward the premium costs of medical and dental plans as listed in Appendix “C” during the term of this Agreement for each eligible member as defined in section 8.1.6.
8.1.6 Employee Eligibility
Employees are eligible for District contribution based upon the hours of their regular work position as follows:
a. Eight Hours/Day
Employees regularly assigned to work eight (8) hours per day shall receive the full District contribution.
b. Four to Eight Hours/Day
Employees regularly assigned to work four (4) hours or more, but less than eight (8) hours per day, are eligible to receive pro rata District contribution (i.e., four (4) hours -- fifty percent (50%)) of the District contribution.
c. Less Than Four Hours/Day
Employees regularly assigned to work less than four (4) hours per day are not eligible for the District contribution.
8.1.7 Employees On Leave
The District shall continue contributions while an employee is on paid leave provided any employee payments are made in a timely manner. During the period of an unpaid leave, the employee shall pay all premiums directly to the District unless excepted by law.
8.2 Retirement Medical Benefits to Employees Who Retired Prior to June 10, 1987
8.2.1 Eligibility
The District and CSEA understand that all eligible classified employees who met the requirements of section 11.11 of the 1985/86 Agreement and who retired prior to June 10, 1987, were entitled to receive District-paid employee-only medical coverage for life.
