The Flyleaf curriculum is an engaging, meaningful, and fun phonics program based on decodable books. The curriculum provides evidenced-based instruction and consists of four series of decodable books, each with a systematic phonics scope and sequence, and corresponding instructional materials. The curriculum covers phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The curriculum also exposes students to a variety of genres, such as narratives, informational texts, and poetry.
Decodable books use only the phonetic code that students have been taught, so they can practice their decoding skills, develop fluency and comprehension, and build confidence.
This series is for Kindergarten and Grade 1. It introduces students to the alphabetic principle, letter-sound correspondences, and blending skills. It also exposes students to high-frequency words, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies. The books in this series have simple sentences, engaging stories, and fine-art illustrations.
This series is for Grade 1, or for intervention. Reading Series One introduces open and closed syllables and introduces students to their first strategy for independently dividing and reading multisyllabic words. Reading Series One books are more sophisticated versions of their Emergent Reader Series "companion" texts and include narratives and poetry. These texts are designed to give students repeated practice in reading single-syllable and multisyllabic closed-syllable words and the most common high-frequency words.
This series continues to develop students' phonics knowledge and introduces them to more advanced phonics patterns, such as r-controlled vowels, silent letters, and multisyllabic words. It also enhances students' vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills. The books in this series have complex sentences, diverse genres, and fine-art illustrations.
This series reviews and reinforces students' phonics knowledge and exposes them to more challenging phonics patterns, such as suffixes, prefixes, and irregular spellings. It also enriches students' vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills. The books in this series have sophisticated sentences, informative texts, and fine-art illustrations.
