Subsidized Housing Pathways
Subsidized housing is a way for people with low income or no income to secure housing they can afford. Due to a limited supply, this type of housing has waitlists for people who qualify.
Subsidized housing involves paying 30% of your monthly income for rent.
For example, Janice was approved for a subsidized housing unit where the unit’s rent is $600.
Janice has an income of $967 per month. 30% of $967 is $290. She will be responsible for paying $290 each month.
The remaining rent balance of $310 will be covered by a subsidy or voucher and paid to the landlord.
If you are approved for subsidized housing and have no income, you will not be responsible for paying any rent. Your rent will be $0.
*Please note, securing subsidized housing can be a lengthy process. Applicants often are placed on waitlists until approved units become available. Make sure you ask questions about timelines whenever possible to get a realistic view of your chances to secure subsidized housing and how long this may take.*
There are multiple ways that you can apply for subsidized housing. Check out the options below for more information.
