Below are a few things to know about recovery housing to see if this is the right fit for you, along with resources.
Recovery Housing Is:
Shared housing with people who want to be in community with others working on their sobriety
For people who have used drugs and/or alcohol in the past
The housing is an alcohol and drug free environment, and people are expected to be working toward abstinence
Considered to be transitional, as people move out when they are ready
You might be living in your own room or a shared room
Typically, people pay rent after finding work or by using their benefits, though some licensed recovery homes accept people who do not have an income
There are recovery home options that do not charge a co-pay or rent to live in the home, or have a sliding scale fee
Licensed recovery homes funded by the state of Illinois are not allowed to turn people away if they are not able to pay, even if the information about the home shares details about a cost called a co-pay
Some recovery homes do not accept people using drugs like methadone, buprenorphine, or another medication that can be used as part of the process of coming off of drugs like heroine

Oxford House is a peer-led sober housing option. These homes are not licensed by the state and are run by people who are in recovery and living in the house. The expectation for people in Oxford Houses is that they will find work after moving in and then contribute money for rent. They are generally affordable.
