Expression of Interest - Mathematics Pathways
Please note the selection of a Mathematics course is included as an Expression of Interest so that students can indicate the level of Maths that they believe they are best suited to for next year. This selection does not guarantee placement into any particular class. It does help guide the Mathematics faculty in the process of class allocation.
Pathway to Advanced – Students will complete all Stage 5 core outcomes, and appropriate pathway outcomes, in preparation for a study of Mathematics Advanced/Extension in Year 11/12. This level of maths will provide an appropriate mathematical background for students whose future pathways may involve mathematics and its applications in a range of disciplines at the tertiary level.
Pathway to Standard – Students will complete all Stage 5 core outcomes, and appropriate pathway outcomes, in preparation for a study of Mathematics Standard in Year 11/12. This level of Maths prepares students for a wide range of educational and employment aspirations, including continuing their studies at a tertiary level if required.
Students in the Standard Pathway are still able to access Mathematics Advanced in Year 11/12. However, they may find some aspects challenging. Classes in Stage 5 will be regularly assessed, both formally and informally, and students can be moved between pathways if their results and effort indicate that a change is appropriate. However, keeping movement to a minimum is preferred.
