Jewelry

Jewelry was just as significant to the ancient people, if not more so, as it is today. Women (and men) used jewelry not only for aesthetic purposes but also to signify their status and perhaps even identity. The types of jewelry are similar to modern types- necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, and bracelets. Perhaps the most obvious pieces of jewelry used as indicators of status and identity were seals, which came in a variety of forms and were used like signatures are used today- to show authority, possession, power, and/or identity. The items on display show that jewelry was made of a variety of materials from precious metals and glass to shell and clay.
