Career

Introduction

At Lighthouse, we understand that it is just as important to prepare students for careers as it is college. For this reason, we offer students multiple opportunities to do just that.

After launching a widely-celebrated Making program and Creativity Lab, Lighthouse added our first Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathway: Advanced Manufacturing and Product Design to our high school in August 2018. Created to equip high school graduates with the design thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication skills needed to be successful in any career, this pathway provides students with hands-on opportunities to create and market products in response to user needs.

Students also participate in grade-level specific activities. As part of their end-of-the-year passage project, all sophomores, for example, are creating a 10-year plan to help them envision a future well past their high school and college graduations. This process includes identifying and mapping their work values to several careers, toward which they will create multiple education pathways. Additionally, all juniors participate in an internship program, as a way to explore and get hands-on experience with a potential career of interest.
