WALTER ROSSI

Walter Rossi was born in Rome on the 12th of April, 1957.
On the 30th of September, 1977, at 20 years of age, he took part in a flyering for antifascist propaganda in Balduina, after a young girl was hit by 3 bullets the night before, as an activist for the communist group "Lotta Continua".
When the protest reached the MSI headquarters, some socialist activists started a fight which led to the protesters to run away; while they were running down "viale delle Medaglie d'Oro", a group of socialists, hidden behind a police armored car, started to shoot bullets with their guns, and one of them hit Walter Rossi, who died before reaching the hospital.

In the following days many protests started all over the country, while the investigation began: many people were held as suspects and witnesses, and surprisingly none of them were part of the police force.
In 1981, thanks to some repentants, as well as the found evidence, suggested Cristiano Fioravanti and Alessandro Alibrandi as the possible killers: three of Rossi's friends witnessed that Fioravanti was the one who had killed Rossi.
In his defence, Fioravanti replied his gun was not able to shoot any bullet due to a problem, and therefore it was Alibrandi who had killed Rossi.
On the 5th of december of the same year Alibrandi died in a fight against the police force, and the case was declared closed, and Fioravanti was said guilty and had to pay 200.000 lires, as well as 9 months in prison.
In 2001 new evidence was found and Fioravanti was declared innocent, while the three friends of Walter Rossi were declared guilty, accused of perjury.
