Seismic Rubber Bearing (SRB) is a technology culmination of 30 years of research activity within the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) laboratories. Seismic rubber bearings are used primarily for buildings and structures of high importance, such as hospitals, emergency centres, and government complexes. It protects the structure and its content from the devastating earthquake by altering the natural frequency of the structure, hence, minimising the transmission of the earthquake energy into the structure.
In Malaysia, HDRB has been used since 1999, when 28 units were installed at the Anjung Getah building in Lahad Datu, Sabah. In 2010, 2,234 seismic rubber bearings were manufactured, tested, and installed at the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, Penang. Recently, a total of 31 units of HDRB have been installed at the Hevea Academy Malaysia building in Langkawi.
