PART 1: IDENTIFYING THE DISEASE
1. Introduction
Cause: Caused by fungal attack on rubber plant leaves.
Target: Attacks most rubber clones planted in Malaysia.
Impact of Attack: Can cause rubber leaf fall up to 100% and yield reduction exceeding 50%.
2. Symptoms
Appearance of round brownish-coloured patches on leaves.
Sometimes these patches overlap with each other forming larger patches that appear petal-like.
3. Cause (Disease Agent)
The primary cause is the fungus Pestalotiopsis sp.
It may also involve other pathogens (complex pathogens) such as Colletotrichum sp., Guignardia sp., and others.
PART 2: PREVENTION AND CONTROL
1. Farm Maintenance Steps (Agronomic Practices)
Fertilization: Perform periodic fertilization with the correct amount and method.
Sanitation: Ensure the orchard/plantation is not overgrown (weed-free).
Early Action: Carry out fungicide spraying immediately if an attack occurs.
2. Fungicide Spraying Strategy
This strategy aims to eradicate and reduce inoculum quickly and effectively, as well as protect the crop from infection.
PART 3: TIMING AND TREATMENT METHODS
There are three main phases in the chemical control strategy:
A. Prevention (Before Attack)
Frequency: 2 rounds per year.
Spraying Time:
After the leaf fall season (when leaf age is 14-30 days).
Before the monsoon season.
B. Treatment (During Attack)
Carried out when an active disease attack occurs.
C. Fungal Inoculum Reduction
Frequency: 1 time.
Area: Recommended for areas experiencing leaf fall.
Target: Sprayed directly onto fallen leaves on the plantation floor.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
For each round, the number of sprays is 3 to 6 times.
The interval for each spray is 7 days.
PART 4: TREATMENT EQUIPMENT
Recommended equipment for treating Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease are:
Mistblower
Cannon Sprayer
Power Sprayer
