Supporting Teaching/Learning

Welcome to the LPS technology resources page for hybrid and remote learning. Our department is happy to support all of the great work that is taking place across Lexington Public Schools as teachers and students participate in teaching and learning during the 2020-2021 school year!

LPS teachers in PreK-12 have been working hard to transition from what would be our "regular" in person teaching to hybrid and remote teaching and learning experiences for our students and families.

We also have DLCs (Digital Learning Coaches) at the PreK-elementary, middle school, and high school level. These staff are working to help teachers learn about remote learning tools, G-Suite tools, and other tools that can help support content. Additionally, the DLCs also have been working to provide remote professional development to teachers on tools that can support hybrid and remote learning both in and out of school.

As we enter into continued hybrid and remote learning environments, please be sure to see our hybrid and remote learning disclaimer HERE.

Remote Learning Devices

Lexington Public Schools has chosen to use Chromebooks for students needing devices during hybrid and remote learning. Chromebooks can be easily managed remotely and have a quick start up time in addition to a long battery life. We also have on site technicians in the district that are able to repair most devices when there are minor issues or there is damage to devices.

The Chromebook your child has been issued cannot be altered and based on the design of the Chromebooks, software is not able to be downloaded; the device is truly a web based device.

We have 1:1 Chromebooks in grades three through twelve across Lexington and students in second grade also have opportunities to use them as well, which makes them a familiar device for students. Chromebooks work well with the Chrome browser system and the G-Suite Education products we use in Lexington, which made it the most logical choice of devices for students to use at home. For remote and hybrid learning, we have made Chromebooks available to all students.

Device Repair Information

As of January 19, 2021, Lexington students will return to in school sessions on alternating weeks (Hybrid) or fully remote (RLA- Remote Learning Academy). Device repairs and pick ups will return to the schools, which means that once you submit a Web Help Desk Ticket, or if you have to pick up a device, that will take place at each of the indiviual schools. Please click HERE to read the most recent letter to parents and families regarding technology repairs and pick ups starting on January 19, 2021.

The LPS Technology Department understands that students participating in the Remote Learning Academy (RLA) or working at home during off weeks in the hybrid model may periodically have incidental repairs needed for their devices. Because schools are now open and technicians are working in schools, devices that need repair will be brought to schools for repair. Please follow the below procedures should your device break and you are a RLA student/family or a student working at home in the hybrid model:

  1. Click on the repair button below and fully complete the form provided reading all directions. For directions on how to fill out the form, please click HERE. The web help desk is intended for technical issues related to breakage or repair on the device. There are other forums for technical support not related to the device not working properly.

  2. Once you have completed the form, please wait 24 hours to ensure that we will have a replacement device for you. YOU WILL NOT GET A REPLY EMAIL.

  3. After the 24 hour period, you will go to the student's school to swap out the device. Go to the main office and be sure to bring your broken device AND charging cable.

  4. LPS staff will help complete any necessary paperwork when you arrive with the damaged/broken device and charging cable.

  5. The replacement device will be the new device you will use. You will not get the damaged device back, but will continue to use the replacement device you are given.

As a note, the Technology Department and Lexington Public Schools understands that accidents periodically happen and that through normal use, incidental repairs may be needed. Families should be aware that they will be responsible for replacement fees related to lost devices or devices which have been significantly damaged or broken beyond repair that are not a result of incidental, normal use.

Hybrid and Remote Learning Tools and Software

Lexington Public Schools has chosen several learning tools as the main tools that educators will use with students during hybrid and remote learning. You can learn more about those tools HERE in a short annotated list. Additionally, Digital Learning Coaches (DLCs) have created videos for students which are also helpful resources for parents about how to use the tools that are being used by educators this year. Pages for each grade span (elementary, middle and high school) are linked in the menu to the left. You can also access them by clicking on the links below.
