Device Care

As noted in the 1:1 computing section of the website, students in grade six are issued devices when they enter middle school and those devices are intended to last through the end of eighth grade. We collect devices at the end of each year for middle school and then reissue them to students in the fall of their next year. Also noted previously is that students in ninth grade are issued devices which are intended to last them through the end of their senior year. High school students may keep their devices over the summer.

While students have full use of the devices while in their possession, the devices are loaned and we look for students and families to care for them to help them last through the student school experience. We recommend the following to help extend the life of the devices:

  • Keep liquids such as drinks, etc. away from your device and do not use them near any source of water.

  • As with any device, extreme heat or cold is not good for the device. It is best to not leave them in cars or other places where heat or cold may result in damage.

  • Please DO NOT put any stickers on the devices. When we collect devices in eighth and twelfth grade, we look for devices to be either recycled or reused as loaners when repairs are needed. When students put stickers on the covers, over time, they become difficult to remove and in doing so, technicians risk damaging devices which would otherwise be used as loaner devices.

  • Be sure to keep track of where your charging cable is. We provide each student with the device and one charging cable at the time of deployment. If you lose your charging cable, you are responsible for paying for it. We are able to provide links to purchase replacement cables which students/families need to pay for.

  • While we try and purchase the most durable devices that we can find, we do ask that students not stack heavy items on the devices as they may crack or damage screens.

  • Please keep a close eye on your device and know where it is at all times. We put labels on devices before they are deployed so that if misplaced, we can easily identify them.

  • Please do not peel off the "feet" on devices and do not try to remove keys, or open up the body of the device in any way.

  • We ask that you not purchase any covers which will modify or result in the modification of the device.

  • The technology department highly recommends neoprene covers and backpacks that have sleeves which are padded to help protect devices.

We understand that accidents and use over time sometimes result in repairs. We appreciate you partnering with us to care for your device. Should your device need repair, or is lost or damaged, you can see information HERE about how to address that.
