Incoming 9th Graders
January 2024
Dear Class of 2028 Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
We are looking forward to welcoming your student to Lexington High School next year! This is an exciting time in your student’s educational journey. During this middle to high school transition, feelings of excitement can sometimes be coupled with feelings of overwhelm. Rest assured, we are fortunate enough to have wonderful educators and resources to help both you and your student(s) with the transition.
Over the next month, we will be sharing more information with you and your student regarding the process of building their schedule.
We will begin with Lexington High School Counselors visiting with the 8th grade students during the school day to review the course selection process while sharing a general overview of life at LHS on the following dates:
Clarke Middle School- Lexington High Counselors will visit Clarke Middle school on February 6th to discuss the overview of the course request process, provide information about LHS, meet students, and answer questions.
Diamond Middle School - Lexington High Counselors will visit Diamond Middle school on February 7th to discuss the overview of the course request process, provide information about LHS, meet students, and answer questions.
The Class of 2028 Student and Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Information Evening will be held in person on February 15th at Lexington High School in our Auditorium at 6:00pm. (Students are encouraged to attend with their parents/guardians). Our presentation will include information on the course recommendation and course request process, factors to consider when requesting courses and considering academic levels, the scheduling process timeline, the LHS 6-day cycle/block rotation, ways to support your student throughout the transition, and general questions about life as a high school student. Our featured speakers will include myself with welcoming remarks, two School Counselors: Carrie Hamblin and Nate Wilcox, a School Social Worker: Martha Queenin, and a student panel.
If you cannot attend in person, the presentation will be available the following day on our website linked here . We look forward to collaborating with you as your student matriculates to LHS! If you have any questions during this process, please contact your student’s 8th-grade teachers or school counselor at the contact information below.
