Add / Drop Information

September, 2022

Happy end of the first week of school!  As we forecasted in the letter that was sent for schedule release, we want to share with you the process for preference-based schedule changes.  Our hope is that this new process will streamline and speed up the schedule change process for both teachers and students, getting students into the classes where they want to be sooner.

On September 9th, counselors will be available in LMC (Library Media Center room 149)  to process preference-based changes.  Students wanting a schedule change will be called down over the PA system by grade throughout the day to meet with their individual counselor to request a schedule change.  Students must report to class first. The tentative schedule is below.  Seniors and Juniors with morning free blocks, in particular, should be sure to be on campus for their time slot.

The schedule of call-downs is roughly as follows, though we may adjust as the day unfolds:

8:35-8:55: Seniors A-L (B Block)

9:00-9:20: Seniors M-Z (B Block)

9:35-10:30 A4 NO STUDENTS

10:50-11:10:  Juniors A-L  (G Block)

11:15-11:35:  Juniors M-Z (G Block)

BREAK 11:35-12:15

12:15-12:35:  Sophomores A-L (H block & 2nd lunch)

12:40-1:00: Sophomores M-Z (H block & 2nd/3rd lunch)

1:00-1:25:  Freshmen A-L (H block & 3rd lunch)

1:25-2:05:  I BLOCK

2:10-2:40 Freshmen M-Z (C block)

2:45-end of day: anyone who hasn’t yet come down

Preference-based changes that are able to be made by counselors (beginning Sept 9th):

Changing the level of a course from AP or Honors to CP1

Changing which elective courses you are taking (switching/adding/dropping) - including language, senior English electives and AP history electives

Dropping courses that are not needed for graduation requirements (so long as you remain at minimum credit for the year)

We are not able to make changes based on wanting different teachers, wanting a different lunch, or wanting to be in the same class as someone else.

The Add/Drop Period

As our handbook maintains a period of 12 course days from the start of the year during which these preference changes are permitted, following arena scheduling, students may still request a change in accordance with this policy up until September 20, our twelfth day of classes.  However, students should be aware that after September 9, seats becoming available in full classes is less likely and requests cannot be processed immediately. Students are strongly encouraged to make their requests during the September 9th arena day.

My request isn’t preference-based, it’s correcting an error!

If your schedule has a true error (you are missing a graduation requirement you need this year; you are enrolled in a course you have already taken; you are enrolled in a class you are not permitted to take; you are missing an IEP service; you are under-credit), that can be fixed right away!  Fill out the Schedule Resolution form and email your counselor!
