LHS ACADEMIC SUPPORT

African American & Latinx Scholars

African American Latinx Scholars (AALS) is an afterschool haven specifically created for the empowerment of African American and Latinx students at LHS. The purpose of this after school club is to provide opportunities for cultural enrichment and intellectual growth through group discussions, self-reflection, games, field trips, peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, and meaningful interactions with community members through culturally immersive events.

Within this club, students are encouraged to set high standards for themselves while supporting one another in their academic and personal pursuits. The student leaders aim to celebrate the inherent strengths of our students and draw inspiration from the tenacity and sacrifices of those who paved the way for them. One of the primary objectives of AALS is to promote and elevate Black and Latinx excellence, ultimately fostering positive representations and perceptions of our African American and Latinx students within the wider school community. The African American Latinx Scholars strive for solidarity at LHS and advocate for equity and inclusion of their fellow classmates.

2023 AALS Student Leaders are Kai'lah Boston (Class of 2024) and Wedeb Amanuel (Class of 2025). We have several teams competing in the Tenacity Challenge (An Academic Competion for students of color throughout the state.)

Ms. Akram serves as the academic Advisor for AALS.

Transportation home is provided by METCO at 4:45pm each Thursday for Boston residents.  Lexington residents are responsible for securing their own transportation home.
