All current 8th grade parents/guardians should receive an informative letter about their student's upcoming IGP conference in the mail in mid-February. We invite you to participate in this process in-person at Fulmer Middle School at your childā€™s assigned appointment, which will be provided on your student's IGP conference letter. If you need to reschedule the appointment or would prefer to meet by phone or Zoom, please email your studentā€™s designated IGP Coordinator as listed on your letter. If you are unable to attend the conference, please let us know by email if we can complete the IGP conference with your student but without you, or if you would like to assign a personal representative for yourself. If we do not hear from you, your child and their designated IGP coordinator will make the best decision based on his/her career interests and teacher recommendations.

What is an IGP?

The abbreviation stands for Individual Graduation Plan.

Why must every eighth grade student have an IGP?Ā

According to EEDA guidelines, every eighth grade student must choose a career cluster in which he/she is interested in as well as begin his/her Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) prior to entering ninth grade. The plan helps them determine which courses they need and ought to complete throughout their four years of high school to best prepare them for their college and/or career goals.

Who must attend the IGP conference?

Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to attend this important conference, where you and your child will meet with our School Counselor, Ms. Ballentine, or our Career Specialist, Mrs. Swygert, to go over your childā€™s educational and career goals and to prepare for their next school year.Ā

When will IGP conferences be held this year?

They will be conducted during the month of March this school year.

What will be discussed in the IGP conference?

During the IGP conference, we will discuss their career path preferences for high school study and their recommended core classes for next year. View the course sequence opportunities that align with the various career clusters HERE!

How will I know when my student's IGP conference is being held?

Parents/guardians will receive a letter in the mail in February with the assigned day, time, and the Designated IGP Coordinator. If you wish to reschedule OR prefer to meet by phone or Zoom, please directly email your Designed IGP Coordinator to request those changes no later than Friday, March 1st!

What if I cannot make my student's assigned conference?

Flexibility is limited as we have approximately 190 eighth grade students to complete IGP conferences with this school year. If you cannot make the meeting in-person, please let Ms. Ballentine or Mrs. Swygert know if you can make the meeting by phone instead. If you cannot attend at all, please let us know if you would like to assign a representative to attend in your place. You may also give us permission to complete the conference without you or a representative. Either way, please let your Designated IGP Coordinator know by Friday, March 1st!

How has my eighth grade student been prepared for their IGP conference?

Ms. Ballentine and Mrs. Swygert are meeting with our 8th grade students in a classroom guidance presentation on Thursday, February 1st and Friday, February 2nd. At that time, your child will explore areas of career interest, which courses and programs are offered at AHS, and which courses are required for graduation. We will also share some fun info about Airport High!

Where can my student and I find more information about the 16 Career Clusters and other career information to better prepare for the IGP conference?

Great question! You can visit this website and this presentation that Mrs. Swygert, Fulmer Middle's Career Specialist, has created for you!

Where can I find more information about Airport's Course Guide?

For the 2022-2023 school year, Airport High School created a webpage with tons of links for your convenience! Click here!

What if my child does not plan to attend Airport High School next year?Ā

In the event that your child is not planning to attend Airport High School next year, the IGP conference will still be held, as it is required by law for all South Carolina eighth graders to develop an IGP.Ā
