FHS Spring Sports 2017

Rush Thomas, Freshman

April 5, 2017

The recent start of spring sports at Fergus High has energized students after a cold winter to get outside again. The spring activities are of course, track, tennis, and softball. With the sports having started on Monday, March thirteenth, students are already excited and eager each day to go to their sports.

Carley C., senior, said that she continually puts in extra hours of practice, and that she didn’t choose basketball this year so she could spend time practicing for the sport she chose, softball. Warren P., freshman, said when asked why he chose track: “I enjoy track because it combines some of my favorite physical activities, which are running and jumping.” Sophomores and juniors, the freshmen as well as seniors are enjoying the spring sports.

With these sports starting up, it might appear as if it takes time from these students’ usual daily lives. Well, that isn’t always the case; for example, freshmen Warren P. has said that he always has time for school sports year round. While the weather has been changing from the mild forties to the high sixties, even briefly seventies, it has only minimal effect on participating students. In fact, when it was as low as thirty-nine degrees one day, students in the sports stayed outside or were able to practice inside the school.

While students participating in track and tennis can get to their locations immediately after school, softball students have to go to their softball complex. Well, senior Carley C. answered how they get there, and simply too: older students drive those without licenses.

But what about tennis? This year, tennis, as usual, started at the same time as the other two spring sports. Several students chose tennis. Logan M. said this when asked why he chose tennis, “Because it trains hand eye coordination and it’s lit.” Students participating in these sports take it seriously, however, that doesn’t mean they always need to be one hundred percent professional when practicing. Some students join these sports just to have fun, some students just want all the exercise they can get, nevermind the fun. Whatever their cause may be, they definitely enjoy the exercise.
