On Tuesday, 5G took a trip to Metro Bank in Epsom as part of their ongoing financial education curriculum. The visit provided our pupils with a unique opportunity to learn about banking operations, financial products, and the importance of financial responsibility.
During the tour, the friendly staff at Metro Bank gave the students an inside look at the bank's operations, including how money is deposited and withdrawn, how loans are processed, and the role of different bank employees. The children also got to explore the bank's vault and learn about the security measures in place to protect customers' money.
In addition to the tour, our pupils participated in interactive activities that taught them about saving money, budgeting, and making responsible financial decisions. They learned about different types of bank accounts, interest rates, and the importance of setting financial goals.
The trip to Metro Bank was a valuable learning experience for Year 5, and it helped to reinforce the importance of financial literacy in their lives. Our children came away from the visit with a better understanding of how banks work and the role they play in our economy.
We would like to thank Metro Bank Epsom for their hospitality and for providing our students with such a valuable educational experience.
Polar Bears had an unforgettable day out at Manor Farm last Thursday, immersing themselves in the sights, sounds, and smells of farm life. The children were full of excitement as they boarded the minibuses, eagerly anticipating the adventures that awaited them.
Upon arrival, the children were greeted by friendly farm staff who led them on a guided tour of the farm. The children's eyes widened with wonder as they encountered a variety of animals up close, including Shetland ponies, goats, llamas, alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs and bearded dragons . They learned about the animals' habitats, diets, and how farmers care for them.
The highlight of the trip for many children was the opportunity to feed the animals. With squeals of delight, they carefully held out food for the hungry animals, marvelling at their eagerness to eat. The children also had the chance to pet some of the gentler animals, feeling the softness of their fur and the warmth of their bodies. Some children were extremely brave and touched a snake with some even having the snake around their neck!
Throughout the morning, the children participated in various hands-on activities that allowed them to learn about the different aspects of farm life.
The trip to Manor Farm was a truly enriching experience for Reception. It fostered a love and appreciation for animals and the natural world, while also teaching the children about the importance of farming and where our food comes from. The children returned to school buzzing with excitement, eager to share their farmyard adventures with their families and friends.
This week is Maths Week London where we celebrated the fusion of mathematics and geography. We explored how map skills shape our understanding of the world. From calculating distances, working out coordinates of important places, finding our school on a map to plotting your route home. The children have enjoyed the exploration of everyday applications of mathematics in geography. As part of Maths Week London we also created superheroes thinking of ways they could help the school save money by using less energy.
This afternoon Shawley was transformed into a vibrant art gallery as we welcomed parents and families to our termly Art Celebration. The event was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible artistic talents of our pupils and to celebrate their creativity and imagination.
The classrooms were adorned with an array of artwork, including paintings, drawings, collages, and mixed media creations. Each piece was a unique expression of the child's individual style and perspective, reflecting their personal experiences, interests, and emotions.
Parents and families were invited to take in the vibrant colours, intricate details, and thought-provoking themes of the artwork. They were also encouraged to engage with their children about their creations, asking questions, offering praise, and sharing in their artistic achievements.
The Art Celebration was a resounding success, with parents and families expressing their amazement at the quality and diversity of the artwork on display. It was a true testament to the dedication and passion of our teachers, who have nurtured and encouraged the artistic talents of our children throughout the year.
We would like to thank all the parents and families who attended the Art Celebration. We are incredibly proud of our children's artistic achievements and look forward to seeing their talents continue to flourish in the years to come.

Yesterday, our talented Year 4 drummers took centre stage at the KS2 Festival of Music held at the prestigious Fairfield Halls in Croydon. The event showcased the musical abilities of primary school children from across the region, and our young musicians certainly did Shawley proud.
Under the expert guidance of their music teacher, the Year 4 drummers had been diligently rehearsing for weeks, honing their skills and perfecting their rhythmic patterns. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they delivered an electrifying performance that captivated the audience.
With their drumsticks held high, the Year 4 drummers pounded out an infectious beat that filled the concert hall with energy and excitement. Their synchronized movements and infectious smiles were a testament to their passion for music and their enjoyment of performing. The audience erupted in applause as the final drumbeat echoed through the hall, marking the end of their unforgettable performance.
The KS2 Festival of Music was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 4 drummers to showcase their musical talents and share their love of drumming with a wider audience. It was also a chance for them to experience the thrill of performing on a professional stage and to be inspired by the musical talents of their peers.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 4 drummers for their outstanding performance at the KS2 Festival of Music. They are a true testament to the musical talent and potential that exists within our school.

Our school catering provision is offered to all children across the Trust by LEO Catering, our in house catering supplier. The menus are created and refreshed three times a year, catering for children with allergies and are available to view below. Our menus follow government food standard guidelines and offer excellent value at £2.70 a day for a main meal, dessert, choice of salad bar, fresh bread daily and vegetarian and Halal options. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal funded by the government's Universal Infant Free School Meal grant and we encourage anyone in any year group who thinks they may be eligible to apply for free school meal funding to apply.
Menus are available here: www.leoacademytrust.co.uk/647/school-meals.
Children in Years 3-6 will need to pay for their meals via Arbor. Cost of a school meal is £2.70 per day, £13.50 per week. Please ensure there are sufficient funds in your child's account in advance, otherwise no school dinner can be ordered and you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch.
For those children who do still bring in a packed lunch, you may have noticed that your child brings home some of their lunch as we encourage the children to take home uneaten food. This enables you to see exactly what your child is eating at lunchtimes and adapt their lunch accordingly. We ask that packed lunches include healthy options in line with our Healthy School status. Children should not bring fizzy drinks or chocolate bars to school.
We have a number of children with nut allergies in school which means that all staff and parents must be vigilant about ingredients we use in school and items put into lunch boxes. No nuts should be put into packed lunches.
Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to all schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. This budget includes pupils who are currently entitled to free school meals, have been free schools meals in the past six years (FSM ‘Ever 6’), children that are cared for or adopted from care and children whose parents are in the armed forces.
We would like to remind all parents who are eligible, to apply for the Pupil Premium Grant. This grant enables the school to provide additional support to our children where needed. Examples of this are, access to extra-curricular clubs and additional support with specific areas of the curriculum.

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), they will be liable to receive a penalty notice.
Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court.
Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.
If your child is off school for 3 days or longer we may ask for medical evidence to support this absence.
