Dear Parents and Carers,
We have reached the end of another busy and productive term. We're incredibly proud of all the hard work and dedication our children have shown, and a huge thank you goes to you, our fantastic parents and carers, for your continued support.
We hope you all have a relaxing and joyful Easter break filled with chocolate eggs, exciting egg hunts, and quality time with loved ones. Whether you celebrate Easter or simply enjoy the Spring season, may it be a time for rest, rejuvenation, and creating happy memories.
Wishing you all a Happy Easter!
Year 5 had a fantastic trip to St Mark's Church last week, where they took part in a series of interactive activities in order to learn about Holy Week and the events leading up to the original Easter Sunday. The children behaved impeccably and asked plenty of thoughtful and respectful questions. We are so proud of them all!
On Thursday 21st March our school celebrated World Down Syndrome Day in a fun and colourful way! Children across the school participated by wearing their craziest, mismatched socks. We saw stripes with polka dots, butterflies with dinosaurs, and every combination imaginable!
World Down Syndrome Day is all about raising awareness and celebrating the unique abilities of people with Down syndrome. Chromosomes come in pairs, and people with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21. This extra chromosome can cause developmental delays, but it also creates amazing individuals with incredible strengths.
By wearing odd socks, we showed our support for inclusivity and embraced the idea that being different is something to celebrate!
We want to thank all the schildren, parents, and staff who participated in this special event. It was a fantastic way to spread awareness and create a more inclusive environment for everyone!
On Monday 15th March we hosted our termly Arts Celebration Afternoon for parents! Children across the school showcased their artistic talents in a vibrant display of creativity.
The afternoon offered a delightful journey through the diverse world of our Access Art education. The Art Celebration Afternoon wasn't just about showcasing talent; it was a celebration of the importance of art education.
The joy and pride on our children's faces as they shared their creations with their families was clear to see. Parents were able to witness first-hand the positive impact of art education on their children's development.
We extend a big thank you to all the children and staff who contributed to the success of this special event as well as to Mrs Morina, our Art Lead, who organised this. We look forward to hosting another fantastic Art Celebration Afternoon next term!
A Big Thank You to Our Reading Families!
We were thrilled to see so many parents join us for our "Drop In and Read" session last Friday! It was wonderful to see the school filled with the joy of reading together.
Your participation is essential in fostering a love of reading in our children. Spending time reading with your child not only strengthens their literacy skills, but also creates lasting memories and builds a strong parent-child bond. Many thanks to our English lead, Miss Smith, for organising this.
We look forward to seeing you at our next Drop In and Read session!
In the meantime, happy reading!
Our talented school choir were back in the spotlight yesterday by popular demand! Following their well-received visit last term, the choir returned to Stanley Lodge Retirement Home, spreading joy with their beautiful voices.
The residents at Stanley Lodge welcomed the children once again, eager to hear a selection of classic songs and familiar tunes. The choir's repertoire, carefully chosen to resonate with the audience, brought smiles to everyone during the afternoon. Huge thanks to our music lead, Mrs Robinson, for organising this. Shawley prides itself on the strong links it has with our local community.
Our recent Book Swap event last Friday was a resounding success! The playground buzzed with excitement as children browsed a fantastic selection of donated books.
From captivating chapter books to whimsical picture books and intriguing non-fiction reads, there was something for everyone. The joy on children's faces as they discovered hidden treasures and swapped well-worn favourites was truly contagious!
More than just a book swap, the event fostered a love for reading and encouraged a sense of community. Children connected over shared interests in books and characters, whilst also experiencing the thrill of giving a book a new lease of life.
A big thank you to all the children and families who donated books! Your generosity ensured a wide variety of choices and made the event so successful. We look forward to continuing to make the Book Swap a regular event at our school. Huge thanks to our Sustainability lead Mrs Rusbridge for organising this.

Our school catering provision is offered to all children across the Trust by LEO Catering, our in house catering supplier. The menus are created and refreshed three times a year, catering for children with allergies and are available to view below. Our menus follow government food standard guidelines and offer excellent value at £2.70 a day for a main meal, dessert, choice of salad bar, fresh bread daily and vegetarian and Halal options. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal funded by the government's Universal Infant Free School Meal grant and we encourage anyone in any year group who thinks they may be eligible to apply for free school meal funding to apply.
Menus are available here: www.leoacademytrust.co.uk/647/school-meals.
Children in Years 3-6 will need to pay for their meals via Arbor. Cost of a school meal is £2.70 per day, £13.50 per week. Please ensure there are sufficient funds in your child's account in advance, otherwise no school dinner can be ordered and you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch.
For those children who do still bring in a packed lunch, you may have noticed that your child brings home some of their lunch as we encourage the children to take home uneaten food. This enables you to see exactly what your child is eating at lunchtimes and adapt their lunch accordingly. We ask that packed lunches include healthy options in line with our Healthy School status. Children should not bring fizzy drinks or chocolate bars to school.
We have a number of children with nut allergies in school which means that all staff and parents must be vigilant about ingredients we use in school and items put into lunch boxes. No nuts should be put into packed lunches.
Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to all schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. This budget includes pupils who are currently entitled to free school meals, have been free schools meals in the past six years (FSM ‘Ever 6’), children that are cared for or adopted from care and children whose parents are in the armed forces.
We would like to remind all parents who are eligible, to apply for the Pupil Premium Grant. This grant enables the school to provide additional support to our children where needed. Examples of this are, access to extra-curricular clubs and additional support with specific areas of the curriculum.
For more information and how to apply, please see below:

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), they will be liable to receive a penalty notice.
Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court.
Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.
If your child is off school for 3 days or longer we may ask for medical evidence to support this absence.
We pride ourselves on offering our children varied and exciting experiences and activities that help to support their learning across the curriculum.
The School Fund will allow us to provide additional activities across all year groups.
We have a voluntary school fund donation of £15 per child or a maximum of £30 for a family if there are siblings at the school.
Payments can be made online via Arbor. Many thanks for your support.
