This week's learning......
Year 6 children have been working hard this week and have shown great maturity as they've settled into their new leadership roles. We are so proud of how they are embracing these responsibilities and setting a positive example for the rest of the school.
English - This week Year 6 were immersed in diary writing, inspired by the character of Stanley Yelnats from the novel "Holes" we continue to read. They have really tried to express their thoughts and feelings in a creative and engaging way.
Maths - The class is currently working on and mastering the long multiplication method. Regular practice of times tables is also strongly encouraged to build fluency.
Science- Our exploration of the animal kingdom continues with a focus on warm-blooded vertebrates. This week, we were learning about the fascinating world of birds and creating short documentaries in the style of David Attenborough.
Art- The festive season arrived early and Year 6 have created their Christmas cards. Look out for order forms soon. We are continuing our Art topic on typography and exploring how it is used in packaging commercially.
History - We're exploring the impact of Sikh beliefs on society through drama activities, encouraging students to develop their understanding and empathy.
This week, Year 6 participated in important workshops led by the NSPCC, focusing on staying safe. These workshops provided valuable lessons and empowered the children. We have also continued to make a splash in their swimming lessons, building their confidence and skills in the water.
Upcoming learning......
English - We will continue their journey with our book "Holes" as they imagine life as Stanley and write an informal letter to his mum.
Maths - Next week we will be starting our work on division and formal written long division methods. Make sure you continue to work on times tables.
Art - We will start thinking about nets for our own 3D packaging we are creating. Please start bringing in food packaging ready for the children to use next week.
History - We will be learning about how Sikh beliefs and their trading impacted society.
Reminder: Please continue to support your child's number skills by practising Arithmagicians at home and remember to read at least 4 times a week.
