LEO League vs Cheam Park Farm

On Friday 10th November boys from Year 5 and 6 played their first competitive match in the LEO Boys' Football League against Cheam Park Farm.  While the result may not have gone their way, the team's determination and camaraderie shone through throughout the match.

From the opening whistle, we were up against a formidable opponent, a well-oiled machine that moved with precision and purpose. There was plenty of early pressure and the team were tested from the off, with 3 goals conceded in quick succession.  However, the second half was a different story and the defence stood firm, repelling attacks and thwarting numerous scoring opportunities.

The final whistle blew, signaling the end of the match and a 4-0 defeat, but although the result was disappointing, the team's performance was a testament to their spirit and determination.  For many this was their first experience of competitive football and representing the school.

Well done to the boys who took part; for showing resilience, passion, and their unwavering belief in each other. These qualities will serve them well as they continue their season, striving to improve and achieve their goals.

EFL Boys' Kids Cup - AFC Wimbledon

On Tuesday 14th November our U11 boys were in action at the EFL Kids Cup at AFC Wimbledon.  This National tournament offers children a once in a lifetime opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium.  The competition, which inspires children to be active, healthy, and develop a strong sense of teamwork, discovered Watford footballer Will Hughes and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.  While David Beckham’s former school, Chase Lane Primary, walked away as 2013/14 Kids Cup League 1 winners, representing Leyton Orient.

Undeterred by the relentless downpour that threatened to dampen their spirits, the boys worked hard and finished top of the group with victories against Woodmansterne, Smallwood and Prospect House.  The team were excited to have made it through the group stages and secured a well-deserved Quarter Final spot.

From the opening whistle, the match was a hard-fought affair, with both teams vying for control of the game. The rain-slicked pitch made for treacherous conditions, but we adapted to the circumstances with remarkable resilience. Their players moved with agility and precision, with Shawley having the best of the chances.  However, it was St Michael's who edged it in the end and 1-0 victory was enough to put them through to the Semi-Final.

The boys should be extremely proud of their performance and positive attitude.

Premier League Stars - Fulham FC Girls' Foundation Cup

On Monday 13th November our U11 girls' were in action at the Premier League Stars Foundation Cup at Fulham Football Club.  The competition is a great opportunity to showcase girls football, as well as giving one lucky school the opportunity to represent the Premier League club at Wembley stadium.

The Shawley team achieved remarkable success, finishing runners up in Group A.  Victories against West Ashtead and Woodmansterne Streatham secured a place in the Quarter Finals.  Our only loss in the Group stage was against Cheam Common Junior who scored straight from kick off.  The girls were excited to get another opportunity to showcase their talent and unwavering determination. Despite facing formidable opponents the team demonstrated remarkable resilience.

Our opponents in the Quarter Finals were Christchurch, who had won all of their group games by some margin.  From the whistle the girls displayed a high level of skill and tactical awareness, quickly adapting to the competitive environment. Their training and dedication were evident in their precise passes, well-timed tackles and knowledge of play.  The teams were evenly matched and it would be penalties to decide who would go through.  Unfortunately, it was Christchurch who had the upper hand and despite Emmy's best efforts she just couldn't get a hand on it.

Ms Wallis said 'To make it through to the Quarter Finals is a fantastic achievement.  To compete at this standard of football, against tough opposition, in this venue is something the girls should be really proud of.  We met 'Billy the Badger' too!'

We look forward to competing in the Reigate and Banstead Schools FA Pokemon competition next month.

NDFL Boys' vs Epsom Downs Primary

On Friday 17th November our U11 boys' were back in action in the North Downs League.  In a captivating display of composure and tactical brilliance, the boys' emerged victorious with a resounding 4-0 win against Epsom Downs Primary.

Right from the outset, Shawley dictated the tempo of the game, effortlessly navigating through their opponent's defense with a combination of quick passing and skilful dribbling. Their attacking prowess was evident from the early stages, with Cody opening the scoring.

Undeterred by the early setback, Epsom Downs worked hard but 2 goals in quick succession from William and Callum frustrated the opposition.  The boys continued to work hard and had the majority of the chances in the second half.  The final whistle blew to rapturous applause from the home crowd, who had witnessed their team's impressive 4-0 performance against a formidable opponent.

We look forward to our next match in the North Downs League.

LEO KS2 Panathlon Event
