This week's learning.....

It has been a busy couple of weeks in year 1, with our trip to the Sutton Ecology Centre being the highlight. We enjoyed completing various activities involving using our five senses. These included; making smelly cocktails, matching coloured squares to items in nature and using mirrors to look at items above us.

In English, we have started looking at the book, 'Peace at Last'. We have got to know the story by acting it out, sequencing pictures from the book and writing captions to match pictures.

In Maths, we have started our new topic on addition. We learnt that you always end up with a bigger number when adding and we learnt to add two numbers together by counting on, using a number line.

In Science, we have finished our work on senses by looking at our sense of touch and our sense of smell. We were very good at smelling what was hidden in different pots and trying to guess what it was.

In Art, we had great fun using felt tips to draw a spiral and then using water to make the colours merge.

In Geography, we have learnt about the characteristics of the United Kingdom and have learnt the names of the surrounding seas.
