In English, year 4 have started a new text, 'Beowulf' retold by Rob Lloyd Jones. We read the first 2 chapters and created freeze frames before discussing the characteristics of King Hrothgar.
In Maths, year 4 have concluded our learning on division by understanding how to divide using the short division method with renaming.
In English, year 5 have started their new text, 'The Last Bear' by Hannah Gold. We have discovered that the main character, April, is relocating to Bear Island in the Arctic Circle with her father, a climate scientist. We have recapped our knowledge of the Arctic and practised writing descriptive phrases about April's new home.
In Maths, we have begun our new unit on fractions. We have learnt how to divide to make fractions and convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa.
In History, Eagles, Falcons and Hawks have started to look at the chronology of the Ancient Greeks by making a timeline of the 6 main time periods. In music, we are learning to use a percussion instrument. In art, we are studying artists who have created cityscapes and landscapes. In PE, we started our new REAL PE unit - gymnastics.
In English, year 4 will continue to read a little more of the Beowulf story and will focus on persuasion writing, understanding features of adverts and different persuasive devices.
In Maths, year 4 will begin a new unit, 'Graphs'. We will start off by recapping pictograms before moving on to bar graphs later in the week.
In English, year 5 will plan, write and edit setting descriptions about Bear Island, incorporating adventurous vocabulary and figurative language.
In Maths, we will be learning how to compare and order fractions.
Next week in Eagles, Falcons and Hawks, we are learning about sieving in Science, and are researching and presenting our findings about Greek Gods in history. We are starting to use apparatus in our indoor PE lessons as we continue Real Gym.
