Our children have came back into school ready to learn after the Christmas break! 

Polar Bears were introduced to our new theme of Superheroes as we have read the story 'A superhero like you' by Dr Ranj. The role play area has been transformed into a Superheroes Headquarters and the children have been dressing up and completing missions!

This week the children have been building the simple sentence 'It is a...' They have been amazing at remembering our tricky word 'is'. They have also been looking at tangrams where different shapes are used to make a picture. Some children have even been making their own tangrams where they have drawn round shapes to make pictures. We have also been learning about and celebrating the New Year. We have listened to Auld Lang Syne and learnt about why people listen to this when it becomes the New Year and we have all made some 2024 artwork as well as thinking about a New Year's resolution.  The children have used their homework of pictures of their family to make their own family trees as we have been learning about the concept of generations in our understanding the world lesson.

Our children have also loved the ice this week and we have had lots of fun outside. We have used hammers to break the ice and we have been in our potion making area to see what happens when we put salt, food colouring and shaving gel to blocks of ice. 

Our new topic is - Superheroes and People who help us!

Maths - We will be learning our number bonds to 5 using a part part whole model. We will also be introduced to addition and how we can use dot jottings to help us to add two numbers together. 

English/Phonics - We will be beginning to write simple sentences in our writing books! 

History - We will be learning about how to recognise achievements in famous courageous people and we will be coming up with our own ideas of what we would like to achieve this year. We will also be looking at special items which would belong to kings and queens.  

Expressive art and design-  We will be creating imaginary landscapes by using different tools to make marks in paint and we will use a new skill of collaging to finish our project.
