Polar Bears have returned from the Easter holidays with positive attitudes towards their learning and they have been eager to learn! We have been very excited to have some new arrivals to the class- some caterpillars! They have already grown so much and the children have loved watching them grow and are excited to watch them turn into butterflies.
Polar Bears have had an extremely busy week! We started off the week by celebrating Earth Day where we used glue, salt and watercolours to make artwork with Earth. We then celebrated St. George's Day and made our own St. George's cross flags using different red materials and we enjoyed completing some colouring.
This week we have been looking at non-fiction books and videos all about caterpillars and butterflies and the children have learnt and remembered lots of facts about them. The children have then used their phonics knowledge to write facts about caterpillars and butterflies. They worked really hard to remember all of the things which make their writing good! In maths, we have been looking at comparing numbers by ordering them from the biggest number to the smallest number. In our understanding the world lessons, we have released all of our tadpoles and frogs with tails into the pond, we are happy to put them into a habitat which suits them better and we will be excited to go and check in on them when we have our forest school sessions.
Upcoming learning.....
Our topic is 'How do things grow?
Maths - We will be embedding our learning of the number bonds to 5 so that we are confidently able to recall them and we will be beginning to learn about subtraction.
English/Phonics - We will be making our own 'What am I?' booklets where we will describe different baby animals and under the flap will say which animal we are writing about! We will also be writing our own story using a story builder puzzle.
Science- We will be looking at different animal babies and comparing the difference between them.
Expressive art and design- We will be using different objects to arrange a composition and then taking a picture of it. Then we will be sketching our pictures.
