Last week our year 5 children embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Kingswood Residential and Outdoor Activity Centre! Throughout the whole week they were immersed in a thrilling program filled with exciting challenges and team-building activities.
The brave Year 5s conquered their fears on the high ropes course, tackling obstacles and zip lines with determination. Teamwork was on display during the camp building activity where children coordinated their efforts to create shelters in the woods. Laughter filled the air as our year 5s paddle-boarded and kayacked in the evening sun. We also had a wonderful, sunny day at Croyde beach where the children embraced the challenging activities of coasteering and surfing, pushing their physical limits and supporting each other so well.
Beyond the adrenaline rush, Kingswood offered opportunities for learning and personal growth. Our year 5s participated in workshops that fostered creativity and problem-solving skills. It provided a valuable opportunity for the children to step outside the classroom, embrace new experiences, and forge lasting memories.
Overall the Kingswood trip was a fantastic experience for our year 5 children. It was wonderful to see them challenge themselves, build confidence, and develop strong bonds with their classmates. We are so proud of the resilience, teamwork, and positive spirit they displayed throughout the trip.
There were smiles all around last week as our energetic Reception class embarked on a fantastic trip to Nork Park!
The children had a wonderful time exploring the great outdoors. They burned up energy on the play apparatus, searched for wildlife in the woods, and used their imaginations to make the park a magical play space. Our year 5 children accompanied them and were a brilliant support. They clearly enjoyed the trip too!
Learning Through Play
This educational outing wasn't just about fun. The trip provided a rich learning environment where the children:
Developed their physical skills: Climbing, running, and exploring the park helped improve their coordination and gross motor skills.
Connected with nature: They observed a variety of plants and insects, sparking curiosity about the natural world.
Practiced social skills: Playing together in the park fostered teamwork, communication, and sharing.
Memories Made!
We are thrilled to announce that our fantastic KS1 team who took part in the Sutton Panathlon this week and achieved a magnificent first place!
The Panathlon is a fun-filled multi-sports event designed to celebrate sporting achievement and participation for all abilities. Our pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the competition. They competed in a variety of events, including obstacle courses and relays.
Their enthusiasm and positive spirit were truly inspiring, and they thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and camaraderie of the day. Their well-deserved win is a testament to their dedication and the hard work they have put into developing their sporting skills in PE lessons.
We're thrilled to announce that Shawley has been awarded the prestigious Modeshift STARS School Travel Plan accreditation! This national recognition celebrates our ongoing commitment to promoting safe, sustainable, and active travel for students, staff, and families.
What is Modeshift STARS?
Modeshift STARS is a program that recognizes schools that are actively working to reduce car use around the school. It encourages walking, cycling, scooting, and other healthy travel choices.
Why is this important?
By encouraging greener travel options, we're not only promoting the health and well-being of our school community, but also contributing to a cleaner environment for everyone. Additionally, reduced congestion around the school makes for safer drop-off and pick-up times.
Thank you to everyone for continuing to support us with this initiative.

Shawley's school lottery has been set up specifically to raise money and make a difference for our children! It's a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that can support and enrich the education of our children - we aim to provide extra resources for the children, improve the school environment as well as run extracurricular activities such as music, art and sport.

Our school catering provision is offered to all children across the Trust by LEO Catering, our in house catering supplier. The menus are created and refreshed three times a year, catering for children with allergies and are available to view below. Our menus follow government food standard guidelines and offer excellent value at £2.70 a day for a main meal, dessert, choice of salad bar, fresh bread daily and vegetarian and Halal options. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal funded by the government's Universal Infant Free School Meal grant and we encourage anyone in any year group who thinks they may be eligible to apply for free school meal funding to apply.
Menus are available here: www.leoacademytrust.co.uk/647/school-meals.
Children in Years 3-6 will need to pay for their meals via Arbor. Cost of a school meal is £2.70 per day, £13.50 per week. Please ensure there are sufficient funds in your child's account in advance, otherwise no school dinner can be ordered and you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch.
For those children who do still bring in a packed lunch, you may have noticed that your child brings home some of their lunch as we encourage the children to take home uneaten food. This enables you to see exactly what your child is eating at lunchtimes and adapt their lunch accordingly. We ask that packed lunches include healthy options in line with our Healthy School status. Children should not bring fizzy drinks or chocolate bars to school.
We have a number of children with nut allergies in school which means that all staff and parents must be vigilant about ingredients we use in school and items put into lunch boxes. No nuts should be put into packed lunches.
Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to all schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. This budget includes pupils who are currently entitled to free school meals, have been free schools meals in the past six years (FSM ‘Ever 6’), children that are cared for or adopted from care and children whose parents are in the armed forces.
We would like to remind all parents who are eligible, to apply for the Pupil Premium Grant. This grant enables the school to provide additional support to our children where needed. Examples of this are, access to extra-curricular clubs and additional support with specific areas of the curriculum.

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), they will be liable to receive a penalty notice.
Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court.
Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.
If your child is off school for 3 days or longer we may ask for medical evidence to support this absence.
