In English this week, year 4 planned, wrote and edited their narratives based on chapter 4 of The Firework Maker's Daughter. We were really impressed with their use of figurative language to entertain the reader. In maths, year 4 concluded their learning on symmetry and began to look at position and movement on a 2d grid.
This week in English, year 5 have been poets! At the beginning of the week, they recapped their learning concerning features of poetry (e.g. alliteration, onomatopoeia, personification, repetition etc.) by analysing a variety of poems. They subsequently worked collaboratively to create group poems about the Amazon Rainforest, before going on to write their own poems at the latter end of the week. In maths, they concluded their learning on the topic of Position & Movement by learning about successive reflections.
In Year 4 and 5 this week, we have used acrylic paint in art to decorate paper which will be used to create clothing on a paper mannequin. In science, we dissected 3 different plants to compare their reproductive organs. In history we wrote about what we have learnt regarding information from the past using a census.
When we return from our half term break, year 4 will be recapping the features of a newspaaper report before planning and writing a newspaper article linked to The Firework Maker's Daughter. In maths, we will complete our topic on position and movement and begin learning about Roman numerals.
After half term, in preparation for writing a narrative based on our class text 'The Explorer', year 5 will be revisiting their narrative writing from the spring term in order to see how they can improve it. In maths, their new unit will be Measurement, beginning with understanding how to convert from cm to mm, m to cm, km to m and kg to g.
In Year 4 and 5, we will be starting our new geography topic named "Would you like to live in the desert?" We will be learning about what conditions are required for somewhere to be called a desert and what animals and plants live there. We will also be completing our art work - creating a piece of clothing for a paper mannequin. In computing, we will be learning how to use Google Sheets to keep track of our daily activities.
