U10 Surrey Cup Boys' vs Hurst Park Primary

The U10s got their cup campaign off to a flying start with a 2-0 win over Hurst Park Primary.

The boys were on the front foot from the start and created a number of chances, and it wasn't long until Cody (Hawks) broke the deadlock with a fantastic goal for Shawley.  The U10s continued to dominate after the goal and added a second just a few minutes into the second half  with a rebounded strike from Freddie (Hawks).  Hurst Park worked hard to create a couple of chances, but the U10s defence stood firm to secure a clean sheet and a well-deserved victory.

'"I'm really pleased with the performance of the boys today," said Ms Hendra. "They worked hard from the start and created a number of chances. They deserved to win and they should go into the next round with confidence"

We will face either Manor Park or Cheam Park Farm in the next round.

U11 Surrey Cup Girls' vs Manor Park Primary

On Thursday 19th October, our U11 girls' team were in action against Manor Park for the first round fixture in the Surrey Cup.  The game started quickly, in lashing rain and despite conceding two early goals, the team fought back well.  They showed resilience and supported each other, which saw us go into the break  2-1 thanks to a goal from Ella.  The second half was end to end, with both teams working hard to secure the win.  However, it was Manor Park who made it through to the next round with the final score 4-2.

Despite the loss, the U11 girls put on a great performance and we look forward to starting our North Downs League campaign in a couple of weeks.

AFC Wimbledon Women vs Worthing FC

Last Sunday, our girls' team and their families were lucky to be invited to attend the AFC Wimbledon Women vs Worthing FC match at the Red Cherry Stadium.

It was a great match to watch, especially if you were an AFC Wimbledon fan and the girls watched the team put 5 goals past their rivals.  Thank you for a great opportunity and a special mention to Hayden the Womble for making an appearance.

Reigate & Banstead Schools FA

Congratulations to Ella (Rhinos), Henry and William (Rhinos) who feature in this week's Surrey Mirror following the success of the District team at the Southern Counties Tournament.

The U11 boys’ had a fantastic start and narrowly missed out on a place in the Final after losing on penalties to a very strong Sutton Schools team.  However, it was the girls’ team who went through the group stages undefeated. The semi-final against Slough saw a physically contested 1-1 draw which went straight to penalties.  A heroic performance from the Reigate and Banstead goalkeeper Darcy MacBride, saw the team through to the final.  The final, against a well organised Wokingham side, managed to see off the debutantes with 2 neat goals to win first place.

SHSG Year 5 & 6 Stingers Netball Tournament

On Friday 13th October 2023, our Year 5 & 6 netball team took part in their first tournament of the year.  The competition, held at Sutton High School for Girls, followings Stingers Hi-5 rules and includes teams from Nonsuch Primary, Manor Park, Barrow Hedges, Cheam PArk Farm, Cheam Common and Banstead Junior.

The girls played some excellent netball, moving the ball quickly and accurately. They were also very strong in defence, making a number of interceptions as well as working together and using centre to move the ball across the court.  Their dedication and persistence in training was paying off and the girls secured victories against Manor Park, Sutton High, Nonsuch and Brookfield.

The team's performance in the tournament was a credit to them all. They worked hard, played well, and supported each other throughout the day. They were also excellent ambassadors for the school.

Thank you to Edith for support and expertise in training.  We are looking forward to getting involved in the North Downs Netball League after Christmas.

Tag Rugby

John Fisher Year 3 & 4 Festival

On Monday 16th October, children from tag rugby club  travelled to John Fisher High School for the Y3&4 tag rugby festival.  The purpose of the festival was to practise skills, encourage children to be more active and to play small sided competitive matches.  The children have a fantastic time and enjoyed getting muddy - true rugby weather!

Well done to all those who took part and represented Shawley with pride!

LEO Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Tournament

On Friday 20th October, it was the turn of the Year 5 & 6 players to put their rugby skills into practise at the LEO Tag Rugby Tournament.  The competition is always great and the standard of rugby increases every year.  The children from tag rugby club had practised hard and with the help of Mr Craske and Miss Martin, put together a game plan!

Well done to all those who took part.  We have lots more tournaments after Christmas.

Well done, Mrs Ashworth!

Over half term, Mrs Ashworth completed an incredible 80-mile second stage walk on the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain. As last year, with her rucksack on her back, she walked for 5 days, passing through stunning scenery and experiencing the rich culture of the region.

Mrs Ashworth is a keen advocate for physical activity and well-being. She described the walk as "an unforgettable experience" and said that it has taught her a lot about herself and the power of perseverance (despite the weather!). She is looking forward to completing the next 80 mile stage of the walk again next October.

Shawley Gymnasts Shine at Disney

Leah, Zozan, Bella and 11 other girls at their Gymnastic club, competed in a competition in Disneyland Paris called Gymnastique Magique. There were 12 clubs competing.

They were all amazing and hope to have the chance of entering again in a the future.
