Year 5 are having a positive and productive start to Summer 2. They have come back ready to work and share their learning with their peers.
We have been looking at volume in maths and the classes have become increasingly confident with their understanding of volume. We have started by counting squared cubes and we are now looking at fractions of a volume so we are also recalling our fraction knowledge while moving forward in our understanding of volume.
In writing, we have finally met The Explorer and what an amazing character he is! The children have been finding him fascinating and have written character profiles about him. The children enjoyed working collaboratively with their writing.
In Humanities, the children have explored the Amazon Rain forest in closer detail. They looked at the different layers and investigated the types of animals that live in each layer and why they live there.
In Science, we moved onto the discussion about the glands that exist in our brains that release hormones to help us grow.
On Wednesday 8th June, it was World Oceans Day. We spoke about our favourite animals in the ocean, looked at issues that exist with pollution in our oceans and considered possible solutions. We are going to try harder in Year 5.
Finally, we would like to congratulate Aarjan and Sameer from year 5 who have reached the finals on the Count on Us competition. This is a fantastic acheivement and we are very proud of them.
