Year 3 have started learning tennis in their PE lessons this half term. They are having a lot of fun playing against each other and learning the rules of this exciting game.
In Maths, we have learned to calculate and compare the mass of different items and we are trying hard to solve 2-step problems involving the four operations. They were really tricky as we had to think a lot and use all the maths skills we have learned so far, but one thing we do well is persevere and try our best! We have started a new unit about Volume and Capacity. We found out that small container can have more volume than a large container.
In English we have done a lot of research on the Queen and her achievements during her long reign of 70 years. We used different sources to find facts about her life and her service to our country and we put all our ideas together in a non-chronological report. This week we are beginning to explore the book 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. We will be learning interesting descriptive vocabulary to write a description of the character and the setting. You could help your child to find different synonyms for everyday words to broaden their vocabulary.
In Humanities, we learned about the life of another amazing person: Anna Nzinga Mbande. She was the queen from Luanda (Angola) in Africa who led her country against the invasion of the Portuguese. We continue to learn about the Tudors and this week we explored the music they listened to and we created our own chants. It was really fun!
In Science we dissected a flower and we learned all the parts of the flower. Some names are tricky to remember! We also learned about the life cycle of a plant: how the flower disperses the seed and how this germinates and grows into another flower.
On Tuesday, we attended a Hong Kong assembly and a workshop to tell us all about how we can support families from Hong Kong who decide to settle in Sutton.
