Our second Newsletter of June - and a very hot one too! The children have all done really well this week despite the heat and we hope you find it really useful to find out information and dates and to celebrate the successes of all of our pupils!
Today at Brookfield Primary Academy we had an extremely memorable and treasured experience. Our Year 6 children were very lucky to have Lovell visit the school and they had a Time Capsule Experience. Each child from Year 6 created their own special time piece and we were all then able to put it inside their very own Time Capsule. To make this experience even more incredible the children then saw the Time Capsule being buried in our Forest School grounds and a plaque to mark the occasion. The children in Year 6 are so excited for 25 years time when their Time Capsule will be revealed and their memories resurfaced.
Thank you so much Lovell for the wonderful experience you have provided our children.
Our 5 keen photographs enjoyed their final session with photographer Emily Wong last week. The children learnt about different angles, positions and perspectives to consider when preparing to take a photo of a subject. Emily showed them how to use background carefully to enhance their photograph too!
Once back in school, the children worked with Mrs Lomax to create their final piece using a selection of edited photographs they had taken, titled ‘Sutton is more than just a borough’. We look forward to finding out how it will be used in the future of the new Throwley Yard venue.
Throwley Yard will be opening next year with a cinema, event space, cafe/bar and more!

Are you fascinated by nature’s solutions to life’s challenges? Have you ever thought of a way to use bioinspired design to improve the world? Perhaps a robotic woodpecker that checks trees for disease? Or a mechanical falcon that protects sea turtle eggs? This contest is a chance for you to have your ideas turned into reality!
All you need is a short description of your idea and a drawing. The competition is open until June 30th 2022. The winning entry will be turned into a real prototype by a team of expert robotics researchers!

At least one portion of vegetables e.g. carrot sticks, cucumber, celery. These ingredients could be added to a sandwich or sweetcorn added to pasta.
Meat, fish or other source of non-dairy protein (e.g. chicken, turkey, ham, beef, pork, tuna, lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, hummus and falafel) should be included every day. (Oily fish such as salmon or tuna at least once every three weeks).
A starchy food such as any type of bread, pasta, rice, couscous, noodles, potatoes or other type of cereals every day (e.g. pitta bread, tortilla wraps, rice cakes, oat cakes) should be included each day.
Dairy food such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, fromage frais or custard should be included every day.

Special Dietary Needs And Food Allergies
We are sensitive to the catering needs of children with specific dietary needs, including religious considerations. We have children at Brookfield Primary who have allergic reactions to nuts; they require Epipens.
Packed lunches must NOT include products that contain nuts (i.e. NO Nutella and NO peanut butter).
WE ARE A NUT FREE SCHOOL
School meals cater for children with special dietary needs and food allergies. Children can choose daily if they wish to have a school meal.
So Please keep lunch boxes free from...
Fizzy drinks or cartons of juice,

Our amazing mathematicians worked really hard in our Maths club and this hard work really paid off in the heats last month. The came second out of 12 schools! We are now practising as much as possible to represent Brookfield and the LEO academies in the final on Wednesday 29th June. This will be an amazing opportunity for our three mathematicians to shine and show their maths skills and team work. We can't wait to compete with other schools across London in City Hall. Wish us luck!
Our friends at Parallel are offering free maths circles starting on Sunday and Monday. Year 5 and Year 6 children are invited to attend these free Maths enrichment sessions to improve their mathematical skills. This is a charitable maths project founded and run by bestselling science author and maths educator, Simon Singh, who spoke at Cheam Park Farm Primary Academy this term, when our students competed in the Count On Us heats. For more information click on this link and sign up for your child. This is an amazing opportunity if you are interested in helping your child at home.
