Year 4 have been working very hard revising for our Times Tables Test, which we have now completed. The children worked very hard and tried their best so we are very proud of them. They will get their results in the next few weeks. In English, we have been revising prepositions, determiners, types of nouns and types of clauses in our Grammar based lessons. We have been reading the story of Anna Hibiscus, who takes a baby chick into school one day. We used our prediction and inference skills to help understand the text.
On Wednesday, we had an assembly and workshop with Hannah , who works for a Church based charity. She told us about people who were leaving Hong Kong due to their treatment there and how some people are now living in Sutton now. We thought about how we would feel if we had to leave our homes and then we completed practical activities using playdough. We have been doing lots of deeper thinking in our RE and PSHE lessons as well and have really impressed our teachers in how we have expressed our ideas using appropriate vocabulary.
In Science, we have been thinking about how animals adapt to their habitats and how humans have altered the habitat of Carshalton Ponds. In topic, we have been finding out about deserts and mountains in Asia. We have also just begun our Design Technology project exploring Asian Food and Food Packaging. this week we had a tasting session and explored the look and taste of coconut, jack fruit, murukku and sambar. There was a mixture of reactions to each food but everyone tried something new and many children liked everything.
