Year 4 had an amazing start to the Summer Term. On Wednesday 27th April, we went to St Andrews Church for a performance from the Philharmonia Brass Quintet. The Quintet introduced us to different types of music that could be played on their instruments as well as introducing each of the instruments and how they worked. They could even make a range of notes on pieces of plastic piping. Our understanding of brass instruments has increased greatly and we were complimented on how well behaved we were. Well Done Year 4!
In English, we have begun to read the book 'The Firework maker's Daughter' by Philip Pullman. Last week, we used the book to help us write a character description of Chulak, a boy who looks after the King's elephant. This week, we have continued reading to book and used it to help us write about the Full Moon Ceremony in role as Hamlet, the King's elephant. We planned our writing together on a jamboard then wrote or description using expanded noun phrases, similes and metaphors. In Maths, we have been locating coordinates on a grid and describing the translation (movement) of shapes using up, down, left and right. We have also been identifying and reading Roman Numerals.
In Science, we have begun the topic, Living Things and their Habitats. We have used MRS GREN to help us identify the 7 features of living organisms., (Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition). We have also begun to sort living things into a range of groups and classify them.
Our new topic is Astonishing Asia. We have been locating Asia on the map and learning the names of countries in Asia and their capital cities. We have also sorted well known features of Asia into physical and human features. We have used Globle to help us learn more about the globe.
Please encourage your child to keep practising their times tables and using TTR ready for our test in June.
