In English, the children have began looking at the book 'Holes' by Louis Sachar. They have been tasked with writing a newspaper report outlining a recent crime that Stanley Yelnates has committed. The children have been trying really hard to ensure the success criteria has been included as well as gripping the reader with their informative writing skills.
In maths, the year 6 children have been refining their knowledge of place value, working with numbers between 1,000,000 and 10,000,000. They have been writing numbers to 10,000,000 using number discs, numeral and words. Year 6 have also been asked to round and compare numbers, followed by placing them in order from smallest to greatest. Tackling numbers of a larger quality seemed tricky at first but they soon grasped the understanding.
In science, the year 6 children have began learning about the circulatory system. They have discussed the importance of the lungs, heart and blood vessels and can explain the function of each. They have also been looking at the different parts of the lungs and how each part plays a huge part when breathing.
Our humanities topic this term is 'Our Changing World'. The past few lessons have seen the children researching the different types or weathering, identify where and when erosion takes place and how the land we live on has changed over time.
Please encourage your child to use Doodle everyday for about 10 minutes so their Maths and English skills improve as they have fun collecting stars. Little and often goes a long way.
