Welcome back Year 3! All of year 3 have had an amazing start to the new year. They have all come into school with a positive attitude to their learning.
In maths, we have been developing our knowledge of place value. Last year, there was a focus on tens and ones where as this year we have expanded it further by looking at hundreds. With this, we have practised enlarging and reducing numbers by 100, 10 and 1. To do this, we focused on manipulating the different place values. All children have shown a great understanding of how to enlarge and reduce numbers.
In year 3, we are very lucky to have a new music teacher coming into to introduce us to new instruments. This half term, we are going to be focusing on percussion and drumming. All children have access to an individual drum in which they are taught how to play the drum correctly. Both classes have shown great enthusiasm when learning how to play this instrument. We definitely have some amazing musicians in year 3!
During our English lessons, we have started to look at the story ' The Akimbo Adventures'. This is a text about a boy and his father living in Africa. To begin our writing journey, we have explored the setting and looked at the descriptive techniques used in the text. From this, year 3 have had a go at writing their own setting description as if they were the author of the story. Our art lessons have also focused on Africa. We have been exploring different African prints and the children have had a go at creating their own patterns.
What a wonderful start year 3 have had! We can't wait to see them all flourish throughout the year!
PLEASE NOTE:
When recording in your child's reading diary, we are only counting a maximum of 2 reads per day. If your child wants to read more that's fine, but in regards to the reading awards, it will only be 2 reads a day. Please ensure reading diaries come to school daily as many children are read with and we can add these reads to the diary.
For forest school, all children must have a separate pair of schools for the lesson. As weather conditions are getting worse/wetter, all children must have a separate pair of shoes to change into after. If they do not have a separate pair of shoes, they might not able to take part.
